Masala Sardines (Sardin Masala)

sardines cooked in the spicy masala style

I had a request from a reader to share the recipe for Masala Sardines a few days ago.  I think she must have had a crystal ball as that was what I had planned to cook this week.  So I told her that I will post the recipe this week.

Super Easy Recipe Biscuit Butter Kaya Pudding (Resepi Mudah Puding Biskut Butter dan Kaya)

pudding recipe using cream crackers

Ok, so as promised, today I shall talk about my Biscuit Butter Kaya Pudding which I made a few days ago.  Yes, because by the time you finish saying the name (Cream Crackers Butter Kaya Pudding), it is already time for breakfast next morning.  My friend Shahila was telling me that it was a mouthful to pronounce. So I just cut it short!  Biscuit Butter Kaya Pudding!  Shah, at least it is now half mouthful right?

Maidin's Rice in Coconut Cream (Nasi Lemak Maidin) & Khatijah's Fish Sambal (Sambal Ikan Khatijah)

a very unique recipe of nasi lemak, different from the norm

As some of you may have already known through my page on FB, my menu for yesterday was Nasi Lemak Maidin or Maidin's Nasi Lemak.  I have been thinking of my late grandmother a lot lately.  The only way that I can still have a part of her very near me is through this Nasi Lemak dish.

Chicken Soup (Sop Ayam)

chicken soup prepared in the singaporean malay style

Chicken Soup!  Since everyone is still having blocked and runny nose in the family, chicken soup might just be the right choice of food even though I was planning to make beef soup actually.  The change of plans was due to my husband having to work late and I am forced to work a little late in the office too whilst waiting for him to fetch me from work.

Chicken in Stir Fried Tomato (Ayam Tumis Tomato)

fried chicken in sour and spicy tomato sauce

Just during the recent Monday, I was still recovering from blocked nose and cough.  I didn't have much appetite but being me, I still wanna eat!  Don't think I'm greedy okay.  I am not.  I just love food a tiny bit more than I love to eat! ;)  No, that's not the same as greedy.

I Have a Life Outside My Kitchen: Good-est Friends Meet Again!

Last Saturday my husband had to spend the whole day caressing the electrical wires at LTA and therefore had to work late. As a wife, I felt cheated and deserted!! Haha!! ;p So naturally, I decided to date the other man in my life, my 3 year old son Sayf and brought him to my good friend, Nadine's wedding dinner. Over there, I met the rest of my old time and long time buddies!!

Strawberry Prata Puff (Puff Prata Strawberi)

Yesterday's breakfast was a self-made dessert.  Remember, I said that I will attempt to make dessert with my favourite "Spring Home" brand instant prata?  So I did.  Strawberry Prata Puff.  Breakfast was really good.

Mackerel Kurma (Kurma Ikan Tenggiri)

mackerel cooked in the indian version of green curry

Yesterday was a fishy day.  I cooked Fish Kurma or in Malay, it would be called Kurma Ikan.  Kurma is something like curry basically.  It is more like green curry but the Indian version of green curry. In the case of curry, you would have to use curry powder to cook it.  For kurma, you would have to use kurma powder.

Tension Rod - An Alternative to Curtain Rod

Just wanted to share what I did to hang my kitchen window curtain.  As you all know, I just moved into my house not long ago.  Just last June, to be exact.  Basically, I renovated everything in the kitchen which includes the wall and floor tiles.  After settling down from moving, my hubby and I had to prepare ourselves for fasting.  We were still tired from all the moving and cleaning and decided that once fasting month had started, we will not subject ourselves to any more tiring and hectic work. We basically got everything done up before fasting month except for one thing which we totally forgot, the kitchen window curtain rod.

Safza Chicken (Ayam Safza)

One of the many varieties of chicken curry with a marvelous taste!

Yesterday, I cooked my husband's yet another favourite dish. It is basically curry. Oh well, being someone married to a man of Indian descent, curry is something that I must know how to cook. Since there is a saying, "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach", I try as much as I can to please my husband with my cooking.

Prawns in Spicy Coconut Cream (Gulai Udang)

Prawns cooked in the traditional malay style using coconut milk and red chillies

I had flu yesterday.  I needed rest but life had to go on. People in the house had to eat. I therefore had to cook. The dish though had to be simple. I needed to have an early night, therefore, this post had to be short.

Super Easy Recipe - Minced Beef and Onion Prata Puff (Karipap Prata Daging Cincang dan Bawang - Resepi Mudah)

Last week, my mother called me to say that she and my younger sisters were coming to visit over the weekend.  Since it was my mother's first time over at my house, I had wanted to cook something for her.  However, she and my sisters had wanted to come at about 5 in the evening.  They would have had their lunch by then but the timing was definitely perfect for tea time.  What should I make then?

Braised Egg with Potato Soup (Tumis Air Telur dan Kentang)

Egg and Potato Soup cooked in the traditional Malay style

It’s been raining cats and dogs the past two days, at least so at the part of Singapore where I live in. Weather has been cooling too. The days before had been very sweaty. I don’t like it at all! Nuh-uh! Now that the weather is slightly cooling, it would be a great time to cook something soupy and perhaps something just a tiny bit spicy for my “you know who” (my beloved husband)! This is quite a common dish amongst the Malays. An old school dish but an all-time favourite for most, I think, at least for me. Being a food lover, I have many favourites of course… that’s why I'm never slim…haha!!

Pomfret in Sauteed Coconut Cream (Bawal Lemak Tumis)

Yesterday, was my lazy day.  Lazy to work, lazy to walk, lazy to this and lazy to that!  Everything about me is just plain lazy. Thank God I am not lazy to cook though a little bit lazy in taking proper pictures of the dish that I cooked yesterday.  By the way, this recipe was from my mother.

Jah's Daughter Indian Fish Curry (Kari Ikan India Anak Jah)

Curries...I love them!! As I am up to something fishy again yesterday, I cooked fish curry. Indian Fish Curry. My version. Not that there are much difference in the ingredients used but as some of us already know, there are so many ways and styles to cook curry. Cook it with meat, chicken, fish or seafood. Have it the Chinese, Malay, Indian or even Peranakan style. It is due to these preferences and variations that the ingredients and cooking style slightly differs.
